Im giving myself a year to tone up to be a size 8, and Im a 12 5ft 4
any suggestions would be welcome.

here you go. start eating better with these habits:
1. Eat every 2-3 hours, no matter what. You should eat between 5-6 meals per day.
2. Eat lean protein with each meal.
3. Eat fruits and/or vegetables with each food meal.
4. Ensure that your carbohydrate intake comes from fruits and vegetables. Exception: workout and post-workout drinks and meals.
5. Ensure that 25-35% of your calories comes from fat, with your fat intake split equally between saturates (e.g. animal fat), monounsaturates (e.g., olive oil), and polyunsaturates (e.g. flax oil, salmon oil).
6. Drink only non-calorie containing beverages, the best choices being water and green tea. diet soda is FINE. don’t listen to the people who say otherwise.
7. Eat mostly whole foods (except workout and post-workout drinks).
form those into habits and follow them 90% of the time (no more than 4 meals out of an average 42 meals per week should violate any of those rules) and you’re well on your way to a perfect body.

you can eat every thing that have vitamines and not fat
Fruit,Vegetables,Salad,Riz…
never drink cola and eat bread , burgers , pizza , hot dogs
make sure to eat 3 times a day
morning , lunch , before you sleep by 3 hours
make some sports stuff at the morning specialy walking is very good it does not make musceles but it burns fat
try always to take a bath by using cold water

This is a bit of a wide question…if you try and lose weight in an unstructured way without knowing what you’re doing, you’ll be wasting a lot of effort.
I would suggest you need a program that would deliver permanent weight loss and that has a good Personal Exercise Plan…it’s the Slim Habit…

I swear by eating casseroles made of beans if I want to lose weight. Any exercise will be helpful, but body pump or weights at the gym will be beneficial if you want to tone up.

if your only 12 years old, you snould NOT be concerned about your weight. Wait until your 15 to start losing weight. I’m sure you already look sexy enough.

Whatever you do make sure its healthy do not take drastic action!
